Calvary Health Care seeking new projects to support

Calvary Health Care Tasmania is offering support packages for worthwhile Tasmanian programs which have the potential to provide better health outcomes for the community.

The Calvary Community Council is seeking submissions from groups which may be able to benefit from Calvary’s substantial Support Program. The program provides both funding and hands on expert help from volunteer staff at Calvary Health Care.

The Chairman of the Calvary Community Council, Mr Michael Kent, says the Council is looking to support innovative new programs with the potential to fundamentally alter community health and well being patterns.

Mr Kent said that the Support Program was particularly aimed at new projects which provide better nutrition outcomes for Tasmanians, particularly young children, together with projects that enhance early childhood health, oral health, and well being for older Tasmanians.

Advertisements will appear in Tasmania’s daily newspapers tomorrow (18 March) calling for submissions, and further information can be obtained from the Calvary Health Care website at: www.calvarytas.com.au Applications close at 5.00pm on April 24, 2006.

Successful submissions will each receive support (up to) $5,000.

The Community Council also administers the Mary Potter Fund (another Calvary initiative), which provides hospital care for individuals who may not otherwise be able to access the facilities of Calvary Health Care due to economic hardship. Since 1994, the foundation has assisted a large number of Tasmanians.

Calvary Health Care has operated in Tasmania since 1938. It is a Catholic, not-for-profit service, operating over four campuses in southern and northern Tasmania. Nearly 1,300 staff provide acute, sub-acute, and outpatient services, to 35,000 Tasmanians each year. Calvary Health Care is part of Little Company of Mary Health Care, a national Catholic health and aged care service provider.
