Palliative Care
Inspired by the vision of Mary Potter, who founded the Little Company of Mary in 1877, our services are dedicated to the healing ministry of Christ.
As Catholic healthcare care providers we are committed to the values of:
- Hospitality
- Healing
- Stewardship
- Respect
In our care for the sick and dying our multi-disciplinary care team strive for excellence and justice, always respecting the sanctity of life. We involve members of the allied health care team as approprite, for example hospice care volunteers, pastoral care. etc.
We extend loving and compassionate care to families and friends supporting them in their care of their loved ones.
In five states across Australia, the Little Company of Mary delivers Palliative Care. Each service is committed to and focuses care upon local community needs.
The Gibson Unit is a purpose built Palliative Care, Haemotology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and General Medicine Unit, located at the St Johns Campus of Calvary Health Care Tasmania.
The only private facility in southern Tasmania offering these services, we opened in 1996 and comprise 19 inpatient beds, 12 of which are dedicated palliative care beds. Our outpatient area comprises 1 bed and 5 chairs.
Our Unit mission states: "In a caring and supportive enviornment we provide high quality care to our patients whom we regard as individuals, each entitled to respect, dignity and confientiality."
Deb Foster / Diedre Tuck, Clinical Nurse Manager's of Gibson Unit, would be pleased to assist you with any queries you may have regarding Palliative Care or Oncology services.
