Neurosurgical Unit
The Neurosurgical Unit is an 18 bed unit, including a post operative care unit, dedicated to the investigation and treatment of conditions of the central nervous system. That is, the brain, nerves, muscles and spinal column. It is the only private neurosurgical unit in Tasmania and is located on the Lenah Valley Campus.
Neurosurgical operations include, for example, surgical relief of pressure on spinal nerves trapped by prolapsed intervertebral discs (slipped disc), surgical fusion of vertebrae, operations on the brain, and operations on the peripheral nervous system - that is procedures on nerves outside the brain.

NeurosurgeryCalvary Health Care Tasmania has recognised both the increasing complexity of neurosurgical procedures and the special skills of the neurosurgeons. Consequently, an advanced state of the art neurosurgical operating theatre is on-site at the Lenah Valley Campus, thereby enabling the neurosurgeons to fully utilise their surgical expertise. |
