During Your Stay

Rooming in
'Rooming in' is encouraged for all mothers and babies. This close contact will quickly enable you to learn to respond to your baby's cues.

Intensive Care Services
Having a baby is an exciting time, but safety and security must also be considered for both mother and baby. Calvary is the only private hospital in Tasmania providing both a neonatal intensive care unit and a fully equipped adult intensive care unit, ensuring both mother and baby are in safe hands

Newborn Screening Tests
Newborn screening tests are performed on all babies born in Australia. The test is undertaken 48 hours following the birth of your baby. Blood is obtained from your baby's heel by a needle prick, and the test detects metabolic disorders which, unless treated early in life, may affect your child's future development. You will only be notified of results if the tests are abnormal. This blood test is free of charge.

Negative Blood Group
If your blood group is Rh negative, blood will be collected from the cord at delivery, then tested by Hobart Pathology. The results of your test will be forwarded to your Obstetrician.

Baby photos
First Foto have been contracted to provide a photo service for pictures of your baby. You have the option to purchase photographs taken of your baby.

Newborns Showcase
The Calvary Health Care Tasmania Website has a special section devoted to the babies born here. Our staff are available to take a digital photograph of your baby and place it on our website for 30 days. This will allow your relatives and friends, unable to visit in person, a chance to see your new addition. Our website address is www.calvarytas.com.au.
