Endoscopy Unit

You may have been booked for an endoscopy procedure after being referred to a specialist by your GP. This specialist may be a Gastroenterologist or a Surgeon.

Endoscopy is a general term covering any procedure in which the interior of a body cavity or organ is examined visually with an endoscope.

These procedures may be performed on patients already within the hospital (inpatient) or on patients who only come to the Endoscopy unit for a few hours (day patient).

Procedures are performed with some form of anaesthetic to ensure you remain comfortable. This means you will not be able to drive yourself home. Two nursing staff will assist the doctor with your procedure.

Each type of endoscopy procedure requires different preparation. At the time of booking in, your doctor should provide you with the corresponding instructions. It is important these instructions are followed or the procedure may need to be cancelled after your assessment on arrival.

If you have any questions concerning your booking, the procedure, preparation or what to expect please telephone the Calvary Endoscopy Unit on the Lenah Valley Campus on 62785141. Our aim is to make your visit as comfortable as possible.
