Coronary Care

Our Coronary Care Unit is custom built and is part of our Critical Care Wing. It was designed with your safety and comfort foremost in mind. It provides intensive nursing care supported by the most modern technological facilities available.

Calvary's highly skilled nursing staff will monitor your progress on state of the art equipment.

This monitoring is the continuous display of blood pressure, pulse, ECG (electrocardiogram) and oxygen content of the blood. These important physiological parameters are displayed on the screen of the monitor above the bed. They are also displayed on a central unit on the nurse station. In this way your condition is constantly observed by nurses especially trained in coronary care medicine.

Once you are up and about, this constant monitoring is still possible, should your specialist advise it, by the process of telemetry. Telemetry monitoring involves wearing a small transmitter which, rather like a radio, sends a continuous ECG tracing to the central monitor to telemetry unit. Any problems with heart rate or heart rhythm are detected, and the ECG tracing of the problem is stored in the monitor's computer memory for detailed analysis. This radio transmission of ECG's is possible from the bathroom and showers, and also from the Medical Ward on the first floor of the hospital.

As well as the advanced technology used for your safety and treatment, similar attention has been paid to your comfort. The beds are electrically operated, allowing for positional comfort, whilst controls for the television, lighting and telephones are readily to hand. Thus, you will find there is a reassuring blend of the advanced technology your illness may require, combined with a very high standard of nursing care and a speedy recovery.
